...

When laughter fades
the tendency toward self-absorption
squeezes the light to a pinpoint.
Morning only intimidates you into another day
and creativity no longer has the energy to care.
~Tim Hansell, 1973

So what happens when what you spent your day doing is slowly taken away, bit by bit. You start to wonder if it was you that brought on the change or if it was circumstances beyond your control. Expecting that gap will be filled with something else, enjoyed, capable of, etc.

Overexpecting.

In the moments of quietness and being still...when busyness is preferred...motivation is sapped. And where else is there to look but self. What is deserved. What is wanted. But where is the beyond-self perspective? Yep, lost along with the creativity that has no more energy. Life without challenge is about as exciting as watching shadows change on a sundial. And produces mediocrity.

Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Psalm 25:5
